boom sticks

I discovered these air drums while searching for easily packable plane toys that don’t contain 45678 movable parts. (Like puzzles. And Legos. And crayons.) While not exactly appropriate for the plane–they light up! they’re loud!–they’re perfect for a 2-year-old to bang on the hotel furniture once you get there.

hot cotton

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

While we recognize that wool rugs have their place (which is usually in a dining room…hello food stains!), here at Casa Misosouper, we’re big fans of the cotton rug. First, they’re cheap, often hundreds of dollars less than what a wool rug would cost in a comparable size; second, they’re often machine washable (despite what the tags might say, we’ve had good luck throwing them in the delicate cycle with Woolite); and third, because they’re cheap and washable, cotton rugs are perfect for homes with pets and kids, because when they get too faded and/or gross, you just swap them out for a new one.

Urban Outfitters usually has a good selection (so does Anthropologie, but that torpedoes the whole premise of these rugs being cheap), particularly during the summer months, when it seems decorating minds tend toward more disposable solutions. This round rug is huge (5′ across), cheery, and ridiculously inexpensive enough to roll up and put away when you get sick of having a neon citrus grove in your entryway.

tee time

Monday, July 14th, 2008

As summer hits its stride, I’m betting that your t-shirts, like mine, are getting a little…ripe. These tops are perfect for a mid-summer refresh: cheap, super-soft, long enough to tuck in, and fit-to-billow, so that any seasonal margarita tummy will be duly disguised.

(Bonus: these tops fit uncannily like James Perse’s Casual Tee, but at 1/4 the cost. And in better colors.)

red neck required

Friday, July 11th, 2008

As yesterday’s crab platter was high, today’s frugal find is low: a refrigerated beer coozie.

Too bad it won’t fit in your lawn mower’s drink holder.
