the-morrissey-of-you-the-less-i-like-you-shirtOh, how I wish; because this Sunday, I’m going to see Morrissey,  and I plan to get my fangirl on all week, no matter how much it makes me feel like the soil’s falling over my head.

the final countdown

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

bertrand-planes-life-clockYour life span, on a clock:  this limited edition piece–only seven were made–that marks down the moments until your death should shove you out into the world.

Or leave you frozen on your couch, paralyzed by the possibilities.

Either way, I think it’s a good buy.

thank you very much, mr roboto

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

mr-robotoToday, when I sorely needed inspiration–among other things, I was hauled in to school to pry my tantruming daughter off the floor (being two?  yeah, everyone should skip it)–I peeked out of my hole, and here’s what I found:

*that you all–my lovely, loyal readers–are an inspirational bunch.  As I read through all 189 comments on the Skeeda giveaway post, I discovered that you are green in ways both big and small:  from recycling bottle tops with Aveda (small but easy; I use all Aveda hair products and never knew that I could do this), to composting and cloth diapering (medium), to moving to a more walkable city in Europe/transforming a schooner into an eco-environment/opening a sustainable bakery (huge and exciting, all of them!).  I consider myself schooled and humbled.

*that when I e-mailed Skeeda to let them know that Tessa is the winner of last week’s giveaway, they were all, “let’s give away more stuff!”, and offered us 20% off any order with the code “misosouper.”  How great is that?

*that one year ago this week, I started this little site, which started out as all, “hey Mom, look what I found on the internet!” it would turn into all, “hey, lots and lots of people whose numbers I cannot fathom, come look at (and win!) some cool shit.”  The site’s design has changed a bit, but the mission hasn’t; thank you all for making me happy to show up to work (and by show up, I mean spill coffee on my keyboard while wearing my pajamas) everyday.

xOxO,

Anna

the glass castle

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

gala-glass-classic-murano-ringMy obsession with non-metal right-hand rings is long-standing.  I have several pieces from Alice over at the lovely Carrotbox, but I’m always adding to my collection, given that I have five greedy fingers that need decorating.  Enter Gala Glass’s Murano glass ring collection:  all of the styles are quite metallic-y, which I like; they’re relatively inexpensive, which I love; and they’re all handmade, which I adore, because my ring stands alone as an objet d’art completely different from yours.  Plus, Gala has been blowing glass in its family studio for over 50 years; who are we to argue with tradition?

{And while you’re poking around Gala’s extensive site, don’t miss the wine bottle stoppers, which are great for housewarming events or your exhausted (and by that, I mean drunken) mommy friends.  And in the grand tradition of “one for you, one for me,” one of these geometric bracelets would nicely square off your spring floral prints.}

This week, we’re giving away the Classic ring of your choice; simply leave a comment on this post, describing why your fingers need this ring, in ten words or less.  For extra entries, you can:  post about the giveaway on your own website; subscribe to my feed; and/or tweet a link to this post, using @misosouper in your tweet.  For each of these options, please leave a separate comment on this post with a link for verification.  One winner will be chosen at random.

the fine print:

Comments will be closed and entries will not be accepted after 11:59 pm EST on Sunday, March 1, 2009. The winner will be selected on Monday, March 2, 2009, and notified by e-mail. Results of the giveaway will be announced on Monday, March 2, 2009.  Previous giveaway winners are not eligible to win.  Misosouper, a shopping blog reserves the right to disqualify entries that are incomplete, inaccurate, or considered spam.

kuhn-rikon-silicone-flat-whiskIn honor of this week’s Top Chef roux-haha (somebody please douse me with a cucumber mojito, because I’m on fire!), I post for you the best whisk known to humankind:  because its flat flangies allow it to scrape all your pot’s nooks and crannies, it will scoop up all the little bits that Stefan obviously missed.
