i caved

Thursday, December 23rd, 2010

I can’t believe I’m about to write this, but my last Splurge-day Thursday post before Christmas is… a Kindle. My husband and I spent weeks trying to decide what to get his parents this year, and it was simply the best thing for them. Their shelves (much like ours) can’t hold any more books, but they are voracious readers. I love books as objects, I love the printed page, and so do they. This’ll just be a nice add-on. That’s all.

got chemistry?

Wednesday, December 22nd, 2010

Maybe it’s because I never took chemistry in high school so it holds a certain mystery for me, but there’s something about those long scientific words and little subscript numbers that I find strangely appealing. This set of 64 crayons has been altered with stickers to show the chemical compounds for each of the colors. What color is grass? Barium Nitrate Ba(NO3)2 Flame, of course!

fire up the yule log

Tuesday, December 21st, 2010

I wish I were a baker, I really do. Because how awesome would it have been to bake up a huge batch of holiday cookies and wrap them up in these woodgrain tins with big red bows on top? Damn. Maybe next year. Ooh, then I could throw a Very Merry Cookie Party, too! Definitely next year.

bye baby bunting

Monday, December 20th, 2010

We leave for Baby’s First Christmas in Connecticut in three days, and word is there is already a ton of snow at the grandparents’ house. So, I spent the weekend frantically searching for winter gear to keep the little one warm. Remember the Patagonia rain jacket I posted last month? Now we can have a matching father-son ensemble with this ridiculously cozy looking baby bunting. Yuppie heaven!

christmas bling

Friday, December 17th, 2010

I’ll admit it, I’m a lazy wrapper. While some people create beautiful packages with stylish paper and elaborate ribbons and bows, my gift recipients are lucky if their presents aren’t sealed with duct tape. This year? Tinsel tape. Bling!
