don’t judge a book

Tuesday, January 11th, 2011

The end of print? Not so fast. Last week the New York Times reported that the latest trend in high-end interior design is filling miles of shelves with books wrapped in neutral paper: “Watch for the white-wrapped book to become this year’s version of the deer head.” I like the cacophony of color on my shelves, but if monochrome is your thing, do it in style.

pretty in print

Friday, November 26th, 2010

As someone who still mourns the passing of Domino magazine, I was excited to hear about the launch of the new shelter magazine, Anthology. And after seeing a real live copy in print (glossy photos! crisp fonts! pages to turn!), I’m all for supporting this new venture with gift subscriptions for a few lovely ladies on my list. While some people may scoff at magazine subscriptions as gifts, I loved it when my step-mom sent me Real Simple. I sent her a little mental thank you note every time it appeared on my doorstep!

book ‘em dad-o

Friday, November 19th, 2010

Our good friends over at Chronicle Books are holding their annual Friends & Family Sale, which means it’s time to stock up on books for 35% off (with free shipping, too!). It’s no $2,000 camera, but Handy Dad looks fun. Design fans will find cool inspiration in Born Modern, and since I have a theory that most men secretly wish they were Johnny Cash, let’s add Pocket Cash to the list. Enter promo code FRIENDS at checkout to get the discount.

family ties

Wednesday, November 3rd, 2010

Ready or not, here come the holidays! Fake smiles, sibling rivalry, unsolicited advice, awkward silences, staged photos… BINGO! Arm yourself for the trip home with Dysfunctional Family Bingo. It might take the edge off just enough to avoid self-medicating, though you’ll also get a square for that.
