I’m thick in planning mode for my son’s first birthday. Growing up in Hawaii, it’s customary to have a huge baby luau to celebrate, and the whole family is flying out for the occasion. Lucky for me, organizing a luau in San Francisco is a breeze, since we have a great Hawaiian restaurant down the road that caters, and you can find all the decorations and party favors you need online. Surf’s up, little monkey!

Alright, alright, you’re broke. Or maybe your leading lady really does *just* want chocolate for Valentine’s Day. But for crying out loud, skip the Hershey’s Kisses and at least woo her with Italian chocolates. And I suppose if you read to her–out loud–the love message written inside–in one of the foreign languages listed–you might even be forgiven for being cheap.

I’m embarrassed to admit that I am guilty of uttering things like “oh em gee” and “unlike” out loud. (Wow, it’s even worse seeing that in writing.) Clearly, these Facebook stamps were made for me. Like!

Here’s a quick, cheap remedy the next time you start to tire of your wardrobe: pick up an inexpensive, patterned scarf and start mixing it up. Works for me every time.

You know you’re old when the fashion trends of your youth come back around to haunt you. The ’70s were all over the runways for Spring 11, and while I just can’t get behind the resurgence of high-waisted jeans, I’ll drop a tenner on these feather earrings. Sure, why not.
