monkey on your back

Friday, April 27th, 2012

Curious George is in heavy rotation these days at our house. Luckily the books are a fun read, and plentiful. We own a couple, but the good old public library is a godsend when you can’t bear to read the same pages again and again. And again.

bubble blower

Friday, April 20th, 2012

A good friend of ours has a two-year-old boy who is obsessed with lawn blowers. He watches videos of them on YouTube, creates mini-blowers with toilet paper tubes, and goes bananas when he sees one in the wild. Today I stumbled upon a toy version that blows bubbles. Someone’s about to get the best present ever.

handmade memories

Friday, April 13th, 2012

All of my son’s favorite stuffed animals have been handmade. My mother-in-law gave him a hand-knit bear when he was born. And my mom continued a long family tradition of sewing him a sock monkey last Christmas. Alas, I have no crafty skills myself, so thank goodness I have Etsy.

yard work

Friday, March 30th, 2012

Spring sunshine means yard work. The boy loves watching his dad mow the lawn so much, we had to get himĀ his own so he could “help.”

george and martha, forever

Friday, March 23rd, 2012

My son is a huge reader. So when my mom was planning to come down for his birthday, I asked her to try and dig up some of my old books so that I could share them with him. On the top of my list were George and Martha, a series about a pair of hippos who are best friends. Reading through these books again as an adult, I realize how weird, and funny, and sweet they are. Best of all, they make my little one laugh, too.
