pretty as pie

Thursday, November 17th, 2011

I love pie. And pumpkin pie is my favorite kind. I may have to add some extra Thanksgiving flare to the dessert table this year with these cute little piecrust cutters. Happy Turkey Day!

easy as pie

Thursday, January 13th, 2011

I’m most definitely not a baker, but oh how I love pie. Normally I’d be intimidated by all the prepping and filling and flaky pie-crust perfecting, but this personal pie maker makes it seem totally manageable. Mmm… Pie.

fire up the yule log

Tuesday, December 21st, 2010

I wish I were a baker, I really do. Because how awesome would it have been to bake up a huge batch of holiday cookies and wrap them up in these woodgrain tins with big red bows on top? Damn. Maybe next year. Ooh, then I could throw a Very Merry Cookie Party, too! Definitely next year.

easy as (whoopie) pie

Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010

I love love love pumpkin season. Pumpkin bread, pumpkin ice cream, pumpkin lattes, pumpkin muffins… and this year, pumpkin whoopie pies! Even though I have an entire whoopie pie cookbook, I am really, really lazy. So my eyes totally lit up when I saw this Pumpkin Whoopie Pie Mix from the always-excellent Stonewall Kitchen. Score!

play dough

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

doodlebreadNow that Halloween’s over (boo!), Casa Misosouper is forced to find new activities to keep the little one busy.  Curious how the line “why don’t you sort your candy by colors?” ceases to work when the parents have reduced the candy jar to wrappers and the odd piece of bubble gum.

So we’ll turn our attention to projects like Doodlebread, a bread-making kit that bakes shapes through every slice.  Want a green star in the middle of your loaf?  Done.  Or you could be even more clever, like little Sophie from London, who plopped a fried egg (made from dough, of course) into her slices.

Prices are in pounds, so the kit–which comes with a silicone bread squisher, mix, and a baking tin–is a bit spendy for US customers.  But considering that these tools will make infinite loaves starred with infinite colors, this might be the rainy-day deal of the century.
