from our friends at TheFind: coyuchi linens

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

coyuchilinensLocated in the scenic town of Point Reyes Station, California, Coyuchi has been producing organic cotton linens since 1991. Point Reyes Station is renowned for it’s progressive organic farming, weekly farmer’s market visited by HRH Prince Charles himself as well as the home of the foodie’s favorite destination for cheese, Cowgirl Creamery.

Not only do Point Reyes locals love Coyuchi, many luxury hotels feature the 100% organic bedding. You’ll find the fair trade linens at hotels and resorts including: the Post Ranch Inn, Hana Maui Hotel, Terra Resorts, Colony Hotel and Hotel Triton. The Fairmont in San Francisco and Washington DC feature Coyuchi in their Lexus Hybrid Living Suites.

Coyuchi uses only 100% certified organic cotton in their linens and has been recognized with the United Nations Second Annual Fashion Industry Award for Environmental Excellence. Every fiber of cotton is produced in accordance set forth by the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM). Organic cotton is grown rotationally and alongside maize, sesame, sorghum and chiles intercropped with nitrogen-fixing plants such as lentils and chickpeas. Some of these plates serve as barriers and repel pests.

If you happen to be around Point Reyes tonight, stop by the Coyuchi store to learn more about their sustainable business and fair trade business and enjoy some champagne and organic hors d’oeuvres!

shopping the sale: west elm

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

West Elm has sales all the time; I try to check out the discounted merch every couple of weeks, and generally avoid the “HUGE SALE” e-mails that arrive in my inbox, because inevitably all the good stuff is already gone.

Here’s what I’m ogling today:

1.  Wood Wedges (honestly, these ledges couldn’t look more adorable in a kid’s room, and for $9.99, you can get them in multiples); 2.  Lutz & Patmos Zigzag Throw (these are yummy soft, and worth stashing in the closet for next year’s holiday gifts); 3.  Uneven Squares Quilt and Shams (simplicity at its best, made even better at 50% off); 4.  Quilted Wingback Headboard (if you sleep in a California King–lucky!–this regal bed is a steal);  5.  Upholstered Bed Frame and Headboard (for the rest of us plebes, this headboard comes in smaller sizes and still ups the nighttime reading comfy factor); 6.  Rope Candleholders (just look at them…do they need commentary?); 7.  Wall-Mount Pendant (I love how these make a grand statement, for $69.99); 8.  Abaca Pendant Lamp (summer, at 82% off); 9.  Square Metal Sofa; 10.  Water Hyacinth Pillows (I dare you to show me a house these wouldn’t look great it); 11.  Beach Club Floral Print Pillow (as a rule, I buy anything that has “beach club” in its name); 12.  Sydney Bar (I’m totally putting this inside my house, but I live in Florida, so hopefully all will be forgiven).

As of this post’s publication, some version of the above items was in stock, although it probably won’t be for long.

shopping the sale: cb2

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

Run, run, run to the cb2 sale; lots of goodies have been marked down, often deeply.  Such as the curve cooler glasses (only 95¢ each, marked down from $3.95!),  perfect for the casual cocktail, or the peekaboo umbrella holder (62% off), which would clearly be chic in any foyer.    I’ve got my own eye on the Gemini bed,  whose dual (duel?) headboards are perfect for the warring factions (names omitted to preserve domestic tranquility) that often bunk in our guest room.

rock your kasbah? oh, i plan on it.

Monday, December 29th, 2008

rockyourkasbahlinensNothing titillates me more than tossing back a demurely made bed, only to find something naughty underneath.  Like these sheets:  made of tumbled 200 thread count cotton, their happy skulls and tattooed bird prints tucked under a patchwork quilt subvert traditional notions of guest space.  Isn’t that right, Mom?

Because no one should have to suffer in boring sheets, Sin in Linen and I would like to dress you up in our love:  make a comment below, telling us in 10 words or less why you deserve new sheets (entries over ten words will be disqualified, so choose your words carefully).  This giveaway is about sin, not sadness, so err on the side of witty to win.  We’ll award the reader who makes our favorite comment a set of Rock Your Kasbah linens, including quilt, pillowcases, and curtains.

the fine print:

Comments will be closed and entries will not be accepted after 11:59 pm EST on Saturday, January 3, 2009.  The winner will be selected on Sunday, January 4, 2009, and notified by e-mail.  Results of the giveaway will be announced on Monday, January 5, 2009.  Multiple entries will not be accepted.  Misosouper, a shopping blog reserves the right to disqualify entries that are incomplete, or considered spam.

gifts that are meaningful

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

holidaybuttonAm I insinuating that the gifts you usually give aren’t meaningful?  (Maybe I am.  I can be like that sometimes.)   Regardless of how much of a jerk I am, these should go out to the ones you love.

14ktinychainringsTiny and delicate can also be a grand gesture.

acontainerforonethingA container for just one thing.  Your love? Your dignity? I’ll let you decide.

besomebodyandywarholwatchYou heard the man. Be somebody, all day long.

cb2dempseychairWhile Virginia Woolf insists on a room of one’s own, I’d just settle for my very own comfy chair.

culdesacgunplatePutting your jewelry in this dish will probably scare the robbers away.

dancingthemooseawayclockI’m not sure what the metaphor is either, but I think I like it.

drinkselectormugPerfect for your new assistant. When he finds a better job, ask for it back and give it to your next one.

feltmessengerbagFelt is so much sexier than leather. What would you rather rub up against in the subway?

heartycupandsaucerGive this to your mother-in-law.  Then smile like you mean it.

hewhowinsprintFor the more cynical among us. (Hey, I say meaningful, not joyful.)

honestystampsThese honesty stamps allow you to apologize or inflame, all without opening your mouth. Isn’t that what got you in trouble in the first place?

initialpocketmirrorA much better teacher gift than caramel corn or an ornament.

johndilnotlittlebookofgardenbirdsA little handmade book of garden birds for your favorite green thumb.

jonathanadlercondomcaddyAn elegant home for the most modern of necessities.

keepmebraceletPuts those Cartier love bracelets to shame.

limitededitionprinteconomicalThere’s someone like this in your life, even if it’s your therapist. A route we do not recommend.

loveisblindvaseRidiculously romantic: artist Jessica Marie Lertvilai collected love letters and transcribed them in Braille onto the surface of this vase, appropriately entitled “love is blind.”

menschmoneyclipIs there a more affectionate term of endearment?

moltillaflowersThese metal flowers come gift-ready in a long white box. Bonus: they’ll never, ever die.

petitnomnamenecklaceAcrylic is the new gold. Custom made, so get your order in now.

proustquestionnaireAfter all these years, there are still some questions left unasked.

redheartlockjournalAnd after all these years, they still deserve some secrets.

stuffyourdoodleSend in your doodle, and they’ll stuff it for you.

swallowsilverheartlocketAn anatomically correct silver heart locket. Go Victorian and enclose a lock of hair.

therapeuticwarmingmattresscoverThis therapeutic warming mattress cover, with its six separate temperature zones, could save your relationship.

ticketstubdiaryRemember when you used to go to concerts? (Both a question and a statement.)

tordboonjteshadowlampLimited edition, just like your kid.

twelvewaysyoumadeadifferenceYes, you could just write out twelve ways you made a difference in a plain journal; but if it were that easy, wouldn’t you already have done it?

wishpaperMake a wish.  Make it count.
