dip a toe in

Monday, August 29th, 2011

Suede booties are all over the place this fall. But trust me on this one. The “hiker bootie” trend is hideous, so skip all the laces and grommets and go with something a little more classy.

no slouch

Thursday, August 18th, 2011

I complain about the fog in San Francisco a lot, I know. But it’s a bummer being cold all summer! The only redeeming factor is that I can legitimately wear these slouchy boots pretty much every day in August.

step it up

Monday, February 28th, 2011

Finally, a pair of shoes that matches my taste in furniture. The blond wood platforms on these ankle boots are totally fly. The grey suede’s pretty nice, too.

easy rider

Monday, October 11th, 2010

Fall boots! The over-the-knee variety are a little too over-the-top for my tastes, but I am totally on board with this new crop of tall riding boots.

puddle jumper

Monday, March 16th, 2009

plueys-argyle-crushTrue story:  as I was rushing to a client meeting in NYC, I lept over a puddle of melting snow, breaking a stiletto heel and–wait for it–ripping my favorite pencil skirt beyond my nether regions.  I ducked into an office building and begged safety pins off a sympathetic secretary, but had to keep my coat on all through lunch, then wobble–up, down, up, down–home.   Bereft and mortified, I decided this was the last straw in a job that I never really liked; the next day, I gave two weeks notice, never to work in corporate America again.  (This all really happened, cross my heart, almost 5 years ago today.)

And to think:  if I had been wearing a pair of these rain boots, I could have stepped in that puddle; my skirt would not have torn, my heel would never have flopped.  I might have stayed in that job, and I might have been promoted from underling to super-vice-lackey.  So by my calculus, Plueys can change your life.

From now until September 15, take 10% off your Plueys order with the discount code Miso10.  (One use per customer.)
