Or in this case, a don’t is a do: these smooshy boots are multitasking genius (again, made from synthetic materials, following the trend set by my Kohl’s purse; I’ve been gravitating toward the cheap lately, but can you blame me?). Wear them to dress skinny jeans up or skirts down, all for $65.

I understand that plastique purses serve a purpose: done well, they can offer the cheap, broke, and/or vegan an alternative to pricey leather bags. But in practice, the pleather often reeks of, well, pleather. Their vaguely chemically smell and rigid texture have disqualified them from my closet.

Once upon a time, long long ago, I was a graduate student in English literature. For a span of three years, I thumbed through, scanned, pretended to read, or actually read hundreds of books, as graduate students are wont to do. I’m occasionally inclined to re-read some of these books (especially the ones I didn’t actually, um, read), but the explosion of marginal notes, dogeared pages, and bored doodlings make it difficult.
