don’t be a slouch

wantedsydneybootsOr in this case, a don’t is a do:  these smooshy boots are multitasking genius (again, made from synthetic materials, following the trend set by my Kohl’s purse; I’ve been gravitating toward the cheap lately, but can you blame me?).  Wear them to dress skinny jeans up or skirts down, all for $65.

mixing business with pleather

Monday, October 13th, 2008

kohlswoventoteI understand that plastique purses serve a purpose:  done well, they can offer the cheap, broke, and/or vegan an alternative to pricey leather bags.  But in practice, the pleather often reeks of, well, pleather.  Their vaguely chemically smell and rigid texture have disqualified them from my closet.

Until I scooped up this faux-woven bag from Kohl’s.  My new beloved is huge, slouchy, and odorless, which makes for an amazing work or school bag beyond its obvious “so what if it touches the disgusting subway floor because it only cost $13.50″ statement.

faux feathers

forever21featherwalletIf this dashing clutch wallet were covered in real peacock plumes, it would never be $7.50.  It would also get soggy in the rain, and probably itch your fingers. So we’ll count our blessings; namely, that this dashing clutch wallet is only $7.50.

bookdartsOnce upon a time, long long ago, I was a graduate student in English literature.  For a span of three years, I thumbed through, scanned, pretended to read, or actually read hundreds of books, as graduate students are wont to do.  I’m occasionally inclined to re-read some of these books (especially the ones I didn’t actually, um, read), but the explosion of marginal notes, dogeared pages, and bored doodlings make it difficult.

These Book Darts would have solved that problem; their minimalist, reusable design allows you to annotate, without actually annotating your text.  An elegant, useful, inexpensive solution–the total antithesis of grad school.
