leader of the pack

Friday, January 13th, 2012

The last wrapping paper scraps have been recycled, the tree dragged out to the curb for composting, and the ornaments packed up ’til next year. After all the Santa dust settled, this motorcycle definitely leads the pack for new favorites. He clutches it to his chest like a teddy bear.

ornamental, my dear

Wednesday, December 28th, 2011

I hope I’m not boring you with this one, but I’m geeking out on ornament storage at the moment. This year I built up my ornament collection and so I need a new system to pack everything up. I’m digging the basics here. Way classier than the plastic tupperware scariness out there. The top shelf of my closet will thank me.

hot, hot wheels

Sunday, December 25th, 2011

You have to give it to Hot Wheels, keeping it real all these years. These were the first things my son opened in his stocking on Christmas morning, and he would’ve been happy if that was the only present he received. “Dune Buggy” entered his vocabulary, and his heart. He’s smitten.

skirt the issue

Tuesday, December 6th, 2011

It is surprisingly hard to shop for a Christmas tree skirt. I’ve always traveled during the holidays, so I’ve never bothered to own one. But suddenly I’ve reached the stage in life when one procures a tree skirt of one’s own. And I’ll be damned if the bulk of them aren’t shockingly ugly—and costly, to boot. Unless, of course, velvet is your thing. Then you shouldn’t have any trouble.

christmas at the zoo

Friday, December 2nd, 2011

As a kid, I was so excited to open up the family ornament box every year. This year, I’m starting a collection of my own, so my son can begin building Christmas memories for himself.
