in a pickle

Tuesday, November 8th, 2011

Can someone tell me why pickle ornaments are a thing? My grandparents had one, my parents had one, and there are a zillion of them online. Browsing Christmas ornaments, I find myself contemplating buying one, and I haven’t the foggiest idea why. I don’t even like pickles.

comfort and joy

Tuesday, December 14th, 2010

My grandmother had a tradition of making sock monkeys for each of her grandchildren when we were babies. I named mine “Monk the Monk” and he’s been a constant presence in every home I’ve ever lived in. Even though sock monkeys have become ubiquitous in recent years, I still find them utterly charming. To me, nothing says “comfort and joy” like this set of handmade alpaca ornaments. Merry Christmas, Monk!
