check mate

Friday, January 14th, 2011

I’m a big list-maker, and there is nothing more satisfying than checking off completed to-do’s. I’m even guilty of writing down things I’ve already accomplished just so I can cross them off (don’t lie, you do it too). Unfortunately, I also have an annoying tendency to lose my lists, but no more! This cool bamboo dry-erase board is going up on my kitchen wall so I can bask in finished tasks.

reduce, reuse, recycle

Thursday, December 2nd, 2010

I can’t quite put my finger on what makes this recycling truck so darn appealing. The perfect shade of green? The soft, cartoonish contours? The fact that it’s made entirely out of recycled plastic milk containers? Whatever it is, I’ve just been waiting for a good excuse to buy it. Hello, holidays!

oh, tannenbaum

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010

When I was a kid, we never had one of those lovely thick, yummy-smelling Christmas trees. Instead, my parents would just lop the top off of one of theĀ norfolk pines in our yard. We’d load it up with lights and ornaments like everyone else, but it always had a bit of a Charlie Brown vibe to it. Time to make up for Christmases past… I’m getting one of these adorable baby pine trees for everyone in the family.

back to basics

Tuesday, November 16th, 2010

Oops. I suck at gifts for dudes. I started out with the best intentions… I was thinking about tools, and then I was browsing the Home Depot and remembered we had talked about how those old-fashioned people-powered push mowers would be perfect for our little patch of grass. And all of a sudden it was, “Merry Christmas, honey! Please go mow the yard.”

tree time

Wednesday, November 10th, 2010

The philosophy of Italian company WEWOOD is simple: Buy a watch, plant a tree, save the planet. Only the Italians could take all the bling out of a timepiece and still make such a covet-worthy luxury object. Looks like you’re barking up the wrong tree, Rolex.
