no hard edges

Thursday, June 16th, 2011

Parenting a toddler is an exercise in spotting potential hazards in every room you enter. Sharp edges, edible objects, power outlets, anything breakable, anything climbable, anything electronic, anything white… I spied this hand-carved accent table and immediately was smitten for its lack of corners.

nesting

Thursday, April 7th, 2011

After a long, rainy winter, my backyard is in shambles. I love to garden, but I haven’t had any time to devote to it and it’s a disaster. I really need an outdoor makeover show to swoop in and unleash a celebrity landscape architect on the space to turn it into a magical wonderland of cozy nooks, lush foliage, and perfect grass. Can we make that happen?

study hall

Thursday, March 3rd, 2011

This vintage card catalog made me time-warp back to high school study halls. I can only hazily remember those hours of doodling in the margins of spiral notebooks, running a yellow highlighter over passages of text, and tapping equations into a scientific calculator whose buttons would baffle me today. But the thought of sitting at a desk in a library for an hour with no electronic distractions seems so incredibly soothing and peaceful to me now. Wow, I really need to put away the iPhone.

ready set

Thursday, September 16th, 2010

It’s time to move up in the world of bedroom furniture. After years of sleeping in the company of mismatched Ikea bedside tables, a West Elm dresser, and a Crate & Barrel bed, I’m ready to splurge. The Grove Collection in walnut from Room & Board is gorgeous, and I want it, bad.

library love

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

This post on Etsy has me seriously considering a librarian make-over, complete with pencil skirt and horn-rimmed glasses. While this piece is technically a vintage dentistry cabinet from the 1920s, it’s reminiscent of those lovely old card catalog cases. Yes, please!
