Just got the new West Elm catalog in the mail and I kind of wanted everything. OK, not everything, but certainly more than I could afford, as if I even had a place to put it. They nailed it this season with the handmade theme running throughout (even down to the Etsy pieces on the walls). But I guess if I had to pick just one, it would be the hand-blocked leaf quilt. My grandmother had a tradition of making sock monkeys for each of her grandchildren when we were babies. I named mine “Monk the Monk” and he’s been a constant presence in every home I’ve ever lived in. Even though sock monkeys have become ubiquitous in recent years, I still find them utterly charming. Last weekend was the Bazaar Bizarre craft fair in San Francisco. There was a ton of crafty goodness to browse, and I knocked a few more names off of my holiday gift-list. Mother-in-law? Check. Sister-in-law? Check. And for myself? Um, check, check, check. I couldn’t help it. The lovely up-cycled jewelry by Cara Lyndon was my downfall.
