mr. sketch goes eco

If all the back-to-school chatter got you nostalgic for sniffing markers, you should check out Smencils. These gourmet scented pencils are made from recycled newspaper wrapped around #2 graphite and soaked in “environmentally friendly fragrance liquids.” Huff away, my pretties.

blast from the past

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

Mad Men mania may have everyone sipping highballs again, but I’m opting to put my nostalgia on ice with this Space Invader–inspired Ice Tray. Totally different take on retro.

skip to my lou lou

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

Everything’s cuter in miniature. Baby animals. Mini-cupcakes. Designer chairs for children. The Lou Lou Ghost, an adorably petite version of Philippe Starck’s iconic chair, is even sweeter at 20% off during Hive Modern’s Kartell Summer Sale, through July 18th.

play dough

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

doodlebreadNow that Halloween’s over (boo!), Casa Misosouper is forced to find new activities to keep the little one busy.  Curious how the line “why don’t you sort your candy by colors?” ceases to work when the parents have reduced the candy jar to wrappers and the odd piece of bubble gum.

So we’ll turn our attention to projects like Doodlebread, a bread-making kit that bakes shapes through every slice.  Want a green star in the middle of your loaf?  Done.  Or you could be even more clever, like little Sophie from London, who plopped a fried egg (made from dough, of course) into her slices.

Prices are in pounds, so the kit–which comes with a silicone bread squisher, mix, and a baking tin–is a bit spendy for US customers.  But considering that these tools will make infinite loaves starred with infinite colors, this might be the rainy-day deal of the century.

baby geared: this time around, things are gonna be different

Monday, August 10th, 2009

babies-with-hatsBack in 2005-2006 when I was pregnant with baby girl #1, I had a lot more time, but a lot less knowledge.

Translation:  I researched wipe warmers, and bought far too many 0-3 month onesies.

This time around, having 3+ years of parenthood and 1.5+ years of shopping blogdom under my rapidly expanding belt, I know better.  So here are things that I–and hopefully, by extension, you–really, really want, and might actually find useful, should you also find yourself knocked up or in need of the perfect gift for an agonizing-over-the-baby’s-cold-wipe first-time parent.  I shall call it Baby Geared, and it shall run right here for the next two weeks.

Amazing photo by freeparking.  Those hats might just be on my list.
