from our friends at TheFind: shine on! kartell cindy table lamp

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

What do you get when you combine a table tamp with ’70s retro appeal with a sheen of shimmery metallic finish? The Cindy Lamp from Kartell. I’m not sure if I love these lamps or am repulsed. I am drawn to their teardrop base shape and fun metallic chrome-like finish radiating an iridescent glow. I could see these paired with a minimalist room on an all black matte night stand that would make these babies pop. What do you think of these extremely shiny lamps?

This Cindy lamp by Kartell comes in three colors: Platinum, Bronze and Violet. $273 at Barneys New York.

from our friends at TheFind: tube top lamps by peter stathis for pablo lighting

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

pablo-lamps

For months I was searching for the perfect pair of lamps for my daughter’s room. We were finally rid of the crib and ready for redo the room with big girl decor. We have a mix of vintage dressers and modern bedding from Dwell. We chose a pair of Pablo tube top lamps in pink. The colored tube top lamps are only available in the small tabletop size with a height of 14 inches. Of course the concern for potential breakage when the lamp topples off the nightstand is a major one. Luckily with the tube top lamp breakage is not a concern because it is made of acrylic. The ‘tube top’ shade of the lamp did fall off once when it was knocked to the floor. The lamp was unharmed and the shade was easily put back into place. The thing I love most about the tube top lamp besides the unique design and bright colors is the dimmer feature that allows the lamp to become a night-light.

The lamp was designed by Peter Stathis for Pablo Designs circa 2006 and is now on it’s way to becoming a design classic. The transparent base is acrylic and topped with a mesh ‘tube top’ shade, it is a well-made lamp and worth the $130 price tag. This lamp will transition nicely with the changes through the tween and teen years then perhaps in the guest room when she is off to college.

from our friends at TheFind: artisan eco-friendly home accessories from stray dog designs

straydogdesigns

That artichoke finial, or as my daughter said, “Artichoke Man”?  Pretty much perfect.  I’d make him little shoes and place him on the dinner table.  See the original post over at TheFind.

I am always on the search for unique lamps, mirrors and side tables. I have been admiring the papier mache “Haitian” drum table and “Sarah” lamp from Serena and Lily and coincidentally found the designer who is Stray Dog Designs based in Chattanooga. This company not only designs unique whimsical home accessories but their products are handcrafted by artisans in Mexico and Haiti who make a sustainable living. The products are also made from recycled materials including glass tin and paper using low VOC paints. The collection consists of lighting, side tables, lamp finials, mirrors and various other accessories. The standout pieces are the Stray Dog Designs lamps which are infused with whimsy and are available in a variety of colors. I have also been on the search for a unique faux bois mirror in white. The Funky Faux Bois mirror pictured here is very sweet and looks even better in white. T0 add a lively touch of color to your lamps the finials are a visual treat as is the entire line. Stray Dog Designs has that whimsical artisan handmade feel and is a nice complement to add charm to your home.

Featured here from top left, clockwise: Sarah Lamp, Funky Faux Bois Mirror, Stump Stool/Accent Table, Aqua Birdie Finial and Green Artichoke Finial.
