a cup of color

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011

I’m on a color kick for spring, and these coffee mugs are on my list. The retro patterns from West Elm are inspired by 1950s diner prints, and I can’t wait for them to brighten up my morning.

interior design

Tuesday, October 19th, 2010

When you think of mid-century modern design, you probably picture a sparse, minimalist interior straight out of a DWR catalog. At least, I did, until I saw Leslie Williamson’s new book Handcrafted Modern. She photographed the homes of iconic designers like Walter Gropius, Eva Zeisel, and the Eameses… in all their cluttered glory.

flying saucer

Tuesday, October 12th, 2010

It never ceases to amaze me how so many of the classic, mid-century modern icons still look so fresh. Designed in 1947 by George Nelson, the Bubble Lamp is beautiful, iconic, and completely contemporary.

fall in love with amenity home (plus a discount code!)

Thursday, November 5th, 2009

Facing facts:  I’m a bit of a floozy for modern, graphic textiles.  While the furniture in Casa Misosouper is low-slung, low-key mid-century modern, the pillows, upholstery, and fabrics explode in patterns of riotous color.  (Think I’m kidding?  Come over for a visit.)

Which is why I’m so stoked about this coupon code from Amenity Home; with fall20, take a 20% discount off your purchase (excluding the Muir Furniture Collection).  Mix and match windblown, organic pieces like the ginormous floor pillows, stretched hemp prints, and durable table linens, or fall in love with the new Arroyo tabletop collection, gorgeously crafted in chunky walnut.

Here’s what I’d choose:

1.  Birdseye 26×26 Hemp Pillow; 2.  Arroyo Salt and Pepper Block; 3.  Grass 12×20 Pillow; 4.  Trail Placemats; 5.  Woodland Squirrel Blanket; 6.  Cove Duvet Cover.

garden of earthly delights

design-house-stockholm-stig-lindberg-table-runnerSomething about this Design House Stockholm table runner–made from a 1950’s print appropriately entitled “Lustgården”–screams spring fun.  Can’t quite put my finger (naked frolicking!) on (public love!) it (floating heads!).
