butterscotch-lane-chipmunk-art-printI’ve been thinking a lot lately on how to decorate kids’ rooms (yes, interwebs, that means we’re having another baby!), and I’ve pretty much settled on these retro-futuristic prints from Butterscotch Lane as part of the new little one’s room decor.  I will have ours mounted on wooden blocks (an option for all the photos), which adds an element of imaginative play and potential danger to the proceedings.

tedde-headless-tedVia 7 Gadgets:   an Uncomb that will make you weep big emo tears.

From Shelteriffic, a teddy with no heady.  Not for your sensitive three-year-old.

Photojojo turns empty glass jars into picture frames.  Can you say genius summer project?

Over at the b-line, Amy assembles lovely things that begin with the letter “u.”  It’s windowshopping, Sesame Street style!

The comments on this Apartment Therapy post are more entertaining than the artwork, which leads the AT folks to defiantly round up more typographic artwork.

And hey!  Speaking of artwork, have you entered to win our enormouschampion giveaway?  Go do that, and we’ll see you back here on Monday.

ruck rover, ruck rover, send something right over

supermaggie-crabs-teeI’m a sucker for any shop that calls themselves a “general store,” because they’re usually treasuries of mishmash, glorious depots of unusual finds jumbled together by their owners.  The Ruck Rover General Store, located in Perth, Australia, is just such a place:  run by sisters Claire and Isabelle, they’ve curated a shop filled with small, indie designers from around the globe.  They feature a rotating cast of things that they love:  today’s finds are Lomo t-shirts by Heavy Rotation, and oh so hard-to-find Polaroid film.  For lazy summer days, I’m in love with this crabby Supermaggie tee, and for beachy nights I want to pull on a  Tomorrow Never Knows hoodie.  Their collection of Moe Moe jewelry is a shop bestseller, and they even carry a sweet little wooden Maru kookaburra brooch.  Of course, the girls at Ruck Rover ship to the US, and they’re offering us 10% off any order through the month of March with the code misosouper, which makes their already good deals (hello, exchange rate!) even better.

hallo berlin

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

city-wallpaper-berlinI collect old maps, and my prize possession is an 1833 hand-colored engraving of Berlin from The Society For the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge.  You really should come over to see it.  If my home ever catches on fire, I’m ripping it off the guest room wall (after securing the husband, daughter, and pets, of course).

When you visit, I’ll let you use my powder room, which is bedecked with the antique map’s modern counterpoint: a photographic, exquisitely detailed wallpaper with panoramic views of Berlin.  I can’t rip that off the walls, but at least I can buy another one.

polaroid-instant-frameWondering what to do with all those foolish pictures of you and your drunken friends/mother/cubiclemate decked in Santa hats that are left over from this year’s holiday festivities?  You could just press delete on your digi cam, and let the evidence of your asshattery disappear into the ether; or, you could print them out, snap them in this faux Polaroid frame, and call them art.

And speaking of asshattery, there were over 100 ridiculously funny entries in last week’s Sin in Linen giveaway, which we narrowed down to one eloquent winner.  Congrats to Erica, whose comment is here;  for having the moxie to use the word “starch,” she gets to sleep on new sheets.  (Oh, don’t be sad.  I told you witty, not pity.)

Check back tomorrow for this week’s giveaway, from the fantastic Madras 641; you won’t be disappointed.
