On this trip we’ve discovered we have a serious water baby. We already knew he loved puddles, but the beach, the pool, and unlimited access to the garden hose has blown his mind. It won’t be the same, but maybe we can recreate a little bit of vacation magic for him at home.
Is there anything better than laying out in the sun with an icy beverage? This vacation is making me seriously reconsider my home town. I want pool furniture, dammit.
I know, I know. I live in San Francisco. Where summers are freezing. And people do not have pools in their yards. But this week is all about dreaming of the perfect Mother’s Day. And my perfect day involves a lot of uninterrupted floating in a very stylish pool.
We are the only house in our neighborhood without a pool, which means that whenever possible, we sneak over to our very patient, very generous neighbors’ house to take a dip.

I’m tempted to plant this waterproof disco globe at the bottom of their pool one night, just because I know they’d appreciate it, especially if we left them alone to aqua boogie.
Also, when lounging on the beach, one needs a cheap, virtually indestructible, waterproof watch.
Bonus points if you buy it in neon.
