wall-greens

Tuesday, June 7th, 2011

The Babylonians were on to something with those hanging gardens… I find almost nothing more lovely than plants spilling over the sides of a planter and greenery cascading down a wall. This affordable option for starting a vertical garden is made from recycled plastic bottles, which makes it even more appealing. Now I just need to find a spot to hang it.

kid-friendly friday

Friday, March 4th, 2011

I’m changing things up a bit here at misosouper. As of today, I’m officially retiring the “Frugal Friday” category and replacing it with a dedicated day of posts just for kids. Because frankly (sadly?), most of the shopping I’m doing online these days is for my son anyway. Might as well share the goods!

from our friends at TheFind: a new life for used holiday cards

Monday, December 28th, 2009

Happy holiday hangover, internets.  Are we tired and broke yet?

Two posts are up today, both featuring cheap and easy ways to ease the post-partyum.

From our smart friends at TheFind:

What to do with all of the greeting cards filled with holiday joy after Santa has come and gone? Rather than toss the cards into the recycling bin consider donating your holiday greeting cards to St. Jude’s Ranch. The 30-year tradition of the St. Jude’s Ranch recycled card program supports the efforts of the children who live at the ranch and that of donors who purchase the recycled “green” greeting cards. The program also educates children on the importance of recycling and they also receive payment for their work with the help of volunteers.

To donate cards send your all occasion cards from November 15, 2009 – February 28, 2010 to this address:

St. Jude’s Ranch for Children
Recycled Card Program
100 St. Jude’s Street – Boulder City, NV 89005

The program accepts all types of cards including Thank You cards, Easter cards, and all occasion cards. I’ll be sending all of the greeting cards collected during my New Years home organization and cleaning projects!

from our friends at TheFind: KangaRoom recycling bags make going green a snap

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

kangaroom-recycle-binsI recently visited the KangaRoom outlet store located in San Francisco. KangaRoom was founded in 2006 with the vision or providing functional, fashion forward, unique storage solutions for every aspect of your life. The store is stocked with bright, colorful and modern organization and storage products. These KangaRoom recycle bags are my favorites and reasonably priced at a set of two for $12.99. I’ve been looking for some fun, colorful and portable recycling containers for outdoor parties and picnics. My husband will also find these useful for cleaning up leaves in our back yard and on the sidewalk in front of our Victorian. Those of you who live in a city know how leaves, trash and other debris can quickly clutter your sidewalk and stoop. These totes are washable and made of recycled materials. I love the combined shades of green and handles that make transport a snap! I’m sold on KangaRoom and will be sharing more of their products with you in the future.

Save on your purchases with Coupon Codes from Linens and Things from TheFind.com’s new coupon site, and read the original post over at TheFind.

prismera-design-algae-note-card-flatThe things I like about Laura Su’s company Prismera Design (there are many, so bear with me):

1.  Its name, which is a fanciful combination of “prism” and “chimera.”  Beyond its lovely connotations of phantom rainbows, it just sounds good rolling off the tongue.

2.  The fact that Prismera Design creates some of my favorite airy jewelryBig and bold, thin and delicate:  the collections make metal into flora, with names like “Titanopsis” and “Phlox.”

3.  In addition to jewelry, Prismera also produces a pantheon of everyday things, such as this sweet birdhouse-esque box for your jewelry, with a felt insert that keeps pieces in place.  Their hand-drawn cards, featuring natural motifs, are not to be missed; if someone wrote me a note on one of these flats, I’d probably frame it.

In celebration of Prismera’s new “Under the Sea” note card designs, we’re giving away four cards from the collection, printed with soy-based inks onto 60% post-consumer recycled paper and accompanied by a 100% recycled kraft envelope that resembles the prettiest paper bag you’ve ever seen.  To win a set of Algae, Branch, Coral and Pod note cards, leave a comment on this post.  Extra entries are available if you:  tweet this giveaway (please leave a separate comment with a link to your tweet…simply saying “I tweeted!” doesn’t count); post about it on your own blog (please leave a separate comment with a link to your post); and/or sign up to receive Misosouper via e-mail.

the fine print:

Comments will be closed and entries will not be accepted after 11:59 pm EST on Sunday, April 5, 2009. The winner will be selected at random on Monday, April 6, 2009, and notified by e-mail. Results of the giveaway will be announced on Monday, April 6, 2009. Misosouper, a shopping blog reserves the right to disqualify entries that are incomplete, inaccurate, or considered spam.
