Speaking of new year’s resolutions, this year I want to make much more of an effort to send hand-written thank you cards. It is such a treat to get something in the mail that’s not a bill or a catalog, and in the age of email and texts, the familiar sight of a loved one’s handwriting is enough to make my heart swell.
Last week, the Wall Street Journal ran an article reporting that twitter fans were giving small letterpress shops a boost in business. Apparently social media has rekindled a desire to engage in old-fashioned paper correspondence. And what’s more, your pen won’t run out of ink after 140 characters.
Gone are the days when most of us had a land line, let alone something with a curly cord attached to the wall. Yet it’s always handy to have a notepad exactly in the place you want to find it at home… even if you’re not scrawling down details about who called, at what time, and did they leave a message.
I resolve to send out Christmas cards.
