delias-geo-tribal-teeMy mom waltzes into my house the other day and spies my dELiA*s catalog.

“You still get that thing?” she says. “Aren’t you a little…”

I cut her off.   “Oh, I still buy things from it.”  {Snickers to cover fleeting moment of recognition and shame.}

This spring, I’m ordering the Geo Tribal Tee.

Take that, kids.

Take 15% off your entire dELiA*s purchase! Hurry, ends 4.09.09. Use code APR15.

ruck rover, ruck rover, send something right over

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

supermaggie-crabs-teeI’m a sucker for any shop that calls themselves a “general store,” because they’re usually treasuries of mishmash, glorious depots of unusual finds jumbled together by their owners.  The Ruck Rover General Store, located in Perth, Australia, is just such a place:  run by sisters Claire and Isabelle, they’ve curated a shop filled with small, indie designers from around the globe.  They feature a rotating cast of things that they love:  today’s finds are Lomo t-shirts by Heavy Rotation, and oh so hard-to-find Polaroid film.  For lazy summer days, I’m in love with this crabby Supermaggie tee, and for beachy nights I want to pull on a  Tomorrow Never Knows hoodie.  Their collection of Moe Moe jewelry is a shop bestseller, and they even carry a sweet little wooden Maru kookaburra brooch.  Of course, the girls at Ruck Rover ship to the US, and they’re offering us 10% off any order through the month of March with the code misosouper, which makes their already good deals (hello, exchange rate!) even better.

the new classicism

Monday, March 9th, 2009

the-trend-boutique-love-shop-scarfThe Trend Boutique is a shop after my own heart:  their mission is to offer tightly-edited selection of fresh clothing and accessories (most under $300) that embrace longevity, rather than fads.  As in:  you can wear this Plenty by Tracy Reese tie-dyed print dress in 2013 and look far removed from the hippy-dippy fads of 2009.  This creamy chiffon tie-neck dress from Bizz (only $83.80!); beautifully draped, covered-is-the-new-naked Postella Lima jade dress; and swingy Lauren Moshi seahorse tee?  Classics, all.

Neon?  You’re not gonna find it here.

The Trend Boutique is also committed to old-school customer service:  all US orders ship for free, and the cheerful staff is available by phone to help you with styling or sizing questions.

And what could be more timeless than a lush, lovely scarf?  Love Shop scarves come in a zillion different colors, are made out of a weightless but strong printed silk, and polish off a tank and jeans just as easily as they top a maxi-dress.  This week, you could win your very own scarf by posting a comment on what Trend Boutique item you want to wear this spring.  Get an extra entry by signing up for their mailing list, or Twittering about the giveaway, using @misosouper in your tweet (please leave separate comments for each entry you complete).  One winner will be chosen by random drawing.

the fine print:

Comments will be closed and entries will not be accepted after 11:59 pm EST on Sunday, March 15, 2009. The winner will be selected on Monday, March 15, 2009, and notified by e-mail. Results of the giveaway will be announced on Monday, March 15, 2009.  Misosouper, a shopping blog reserves the right to disqualify entries that are incomplete, inaccurate, or considered spam.

ETA:  we are giving away a Love Shop scarf, not a Love Quotes scarf.  Our apologies for the confusion!  To sweeten the deal, The Trend Boutique is offering a special deal to misosouper readers:  at checkout, just enter Miso15 for 15% off all orders, and Miso20 for 20% off orders of $150 or more.

shopping spring ‘09: urban outfitters

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

I’m a little beaten down by winter at this point, aren’t you?  (And I live in Florida, which says something about either the weather this year, or my fortitude…probably both.)  And while most sales are unloading their winter merch, I’d rather shop spring–cheaply.  Here are my greatest hits from Urban Outfitters‘ new collection that will put spring in your step:

1.  Urban Renewal Leather Chain Strap Bag, made from recycled leather jackets in UO’s Philly studios; 2.  Colorblock Ruffle Dress; 3.  Ecote Border Print Voile Skirt, which could be possibly the easiest summer-bbq-bottom ever (note the elastic waist); 4.  Kimchi Blue Striped Sweatshirt; 5.  Lark & Wolff by Steven Alan Sailor Jumper (adult onesies are my definition of a spring fling); 6.  Matiko Nakia Sandal; 7.   Mirror/Dash Rolled Cuff Tee (from Kim Gordon’s new line… just ignore model’s bleached legs); 8.  UO Skyline Sunglasses, which perfectly capture our vintage eyewear moment; 9.   Silence & Noise Fleece Motorcycle Jacket; 10.  Serpentine Necklace, which was splashed all over UO’s catalog, because it goes with all of these pieces; 11.  Silence & Noise Chevron Tank, which would make a fantastic outfit paired with the necklace on the left and the shoes on the right (add skinny jeans, please); 12.  Jeffrey Campbell Crosshatch Platform, the actualization of fierce.

every day is like sunday

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

the-morrissey-of-you-the-less-i-like-you-shirtOh, how I wish; because this Sunday, I’m going to see Morrissey,  and I plan to get my fangirl on all week, no matter how much it makes me feel like the soil’s falling over my head.
