from our friends at TheFind: say “au revoir” to muddy doorways

Monday, February 8th, 2010

With all of the rainy weather we’ve been having here in San Francisco I could really use a new outdoor doormat. A rubber weatherproof doormat is the key to preventing all sorts of outdoor debris and mud from making its way onto my hardwood floors. These clever manhole cover door mats are cheeky and fun. My fave is the Paris Sewer Manhole Cover, the other cities don’t have quite the same glamour element (really no glamour element). The Paris design is much more aesthetically appealing, as are most things Parisian in my mind. From Feet First Doormats, the entire collection is made of 100% recycled truck tires and nylon flocking for extra durability.

from our friends at TheFind: parkhaus chicken egg cozy

Monday, February 1st, 2010

From our friends at TheFind:

I’ve recently found lots of cool felt items from a German company called Parkhaus Berlin. They create and design modern home accessories in their Berlin studios. The collection includes cushions for design classic chairs, felt accessories and lighting.

This chicken egg cozy is one of my faves. I love bright colors like orange for my kitchen. Orange plays nicely in a modern kitchen against white, dark browns or various shades of greens, blues and even pairs well with magenta. Think Marimekko! The simplicity is wonderful as well. The ideal breakfast time accessory for friendly modernists!

All of Parkhaus’ products are made of 100% all-natural wool felt and are made in Germany. This cozy goes for $15 at Greenergrassdesign.com.

from our friends at TheFind: valentine’s cards from paper culture for Haiti relief

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

In the last year I’ve ordered cards from Paper Culture for several occasions. A friend’s baby shower, birthday parties, Valentine’s day cards and of course our annual family Christmas cards. I love ALL of the designs from this cool new personalized card site. The designs of the cards are amazingly sophisticated and stylish. The best thing is that they will address and mail the cards for you. They will also add a personalized greeting, which by the way has sent many compliments my way. And yes, I am happy to take the credit!

If you are shopping for Valentine’s Day cards, Paper Culture will donate 100% of this year’s Valentine’s Day Card proceeds to Haiti Relief. This is a wonderful way to send a Valentine’s greeting to your loved ones and to help send relief to those in need.

from our friends at TheFind: shine on! kartell cindy table lamp

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

What do you get when you combine a table tamp with ’70s retro appeal with a sheen of shimmery metallic finish? The Cindy Lamp from Kartell. I’m not sure if I love these lamps or am repulsed. I am drawn to their teardrop base shape and fun metallic chrome-like finish radiating an iridescent glow. I could see these paired with a minimalist room on an all black matte night stand that would make these babies pop. What do you think of these extremely shiny lamps?

This Cindy lamp by Kartell comes in three colors: Platinum, Bronze and Violet. $273 at Barneys New York.

from our friends at TheFind: a new life for used holiday cards

Monday, December 28th, 2009

Happy holiday hangover, internets.  Are we tired and broke yet?

Two posts are up today, both featuring cheap and easy ways to ease the post-partyum.

From our smart friends at TheFind:

What to do with all of the greeting cards filled with holiday joy after Santa has come and gone? Rather than toss the cards into the recycling bin consider donating your holiday greeting cards to St. Jude’s Ranch. The 30-year tradition of the St. Jude’s Ranch recycled card program supports the efforts of the children who live at the ranch and that of donors who purchase the recycled “green” greeting cards. The program also educates children on the importance of recycling and they also receive payment for their work with the help of volunteers.

To donate cards send your all occasion cards from November 15, 2009 – February 28, 2010 to this address:

St. Jude’s Ranch for Children
Recycled Card Program
100 St. Jude’s Street – Boulder City, NV 89005

The program accepts all types of cards including Thank You cards, Easter cards, and all occasion cards. I’ll be sending all of the greeting cards collected during my New Years home organization and cleaning projects!
